Coal Collector – A Retro ZX Spectrum Adventure by Craig Cole (Sinclair Programs-November 84-Page 52)

This was the first program I wrote at the age of 14, shortly after getting my ZX Spectrum. I was thrilled to be paid a whopping £10. Those were fun times!

In the game, help Percy collect lumps of coal from the mine using transporters to jump to the next level when necessary. Be careful to avoid the bats and ghosts that haunt the mine, as they will hinder your progress. Once all the coal has been collected, make your way to the top of the mine to start again. Use the Q and W keys to move left and right, and press the SPACEBAR to jump.

“Coal Collector” was written for the 48K Spectrum by Craig Cole.

While working at the British Library, I came across the actual magazine that features my game, Sinclair Programs. It was amazing to see the magazine and realize that it’s now part of the library’s permanent collection. Thanks to Pete for helping me find it!

A big acknowledgement to 1up for using the music to THE 1UP SHOW.
