Craig, Chris, Dave, Pete and Steve at the r3play 2011 retro gaming event. Attended both the Saturday and Sunday, stayed overnight in blackpool (lots of beers and a bit of Karaoke).
Had a brilliant time, the event gets better each year. We lost Dave early days to the Pinball Alley, mostly ‘The Addams Family’ machine. I was so lost into the gaming that I just forgot to take many pics or vids. We good to meet some of the folks from Jammaplus forums, and some of the cabs. Sweet. Managed to get to quite alot of the talks this time around, really interesting. This event needs to be on Monthly.
Again, all with big grins on our face all day long.

Craig, Chris, Dave, Pete and Steve in Pinball Alley at R3play 2011. The atmosphere is so awesome, their was lots more pins this year. There was that many that not only did we have pinball alley, we also had another room full to the brim with pins (including the mighty ‘The Adams Family’).
Dave and Chris got some amazing scores. I need a pin, more than ever. I Need a TAF pin

Background – I found Mass Effect 1 so boring, my biggest gaming disappointment this gen. Whereas Mass Effect 2 I adored, loved the combat, the characters and the story. It grip me right until the end. Was such an epic experience. My only complaint would be that I would have preferred it if they had left in item management. This was simplified too much for my taste.
Mass Effect 3, I was so looking forward to this. anyways after about a good 25+ hrs I have completed the main story line. I struggled with the game from the start, it just wasn’t grabbing me. Think it was to do with the characters and story, I didn’t care for what was happening and to whom. So a very average beginning and middle, however thankfully it did pick up for me about two thirds in, and got ‘great’ towards the end.
I thought the visuals were not consistent, at times they was nice, at times quite dull and ugly. The sounds/music fantastic and was amazing on dolby digital system. I had a great time with the special skills. Weapons felt great and had some weight to them, and they all felt different. Disk Swapping was tedious (even though I installed to hard drive) The controls, holy crap the worst thing about the game. I always found myself attaching to cover whenever I didn’t want to and it was the main reason for many of my deaths, it became so frustrating at times, I even screamed at the TV (I don’t remember ME2 ever having such a problem). To sum it up, a good game but I was hoping for more, but did really enjoy the last third. We don’t seem to be having much luck with the third instalments of games for this gen, seems like everyone is just treading water and delivering ‘average’, playing it to safe. (looking at you Uncharted 3, Halo3, Gears 3)
Still looking forward to what they produce next, as maybe not up to the bar set by Mass Effect 2. But still better than most.
