    Top games I played 2012

A list of the games which I enjoyed in 2012. It includes games I played during the year and not the year they were released. I have some major 2012 titles that I haven’t played yet, such as ‘Farcry 3’, ‘Walking Dead’ and “Journey”

This year has been a very Higgledy-piggledy year of gaming for me, I have continued to delay buying the games (saving pennies) so tended to be playing the games many months after everyone else. I dropped xboxlive, only picking it up on trials of £1 a month deals. I have began to move back across to the PC, (Left4Dead 2) as the console hardware seems a bit ‘boring’ .

I have played quite a lot of retro machines and indie titles this year, I enjoyed the indie titles Brimstone and Manic Miner 360 on xbla . actually found two games on my mobile phone I enjoyed playing, Subway Surf and New Star Soccer. Enjoyed the score chase with my mates and kids.

Last day of the year I bought a Wii U, it hasnt arrived yet but I am excited to try it out. Why did I get it. Many reasons really

    – New tech, like trying out new gaming experiences

    – Think will be fun to play with the kids, my Xbox/PS3 and PC titles seem to be still mature focused.

    – hearing peoples views cant wait to try out Wii U Universe

    – and heard Zombie U takes pointers from Demon Souls, now its a must get :)

    – and i just wanted to support this gaming company, that isnt trying to shove non-gaming stuff down my throat

The complete list is here; https://www.giantbomb.com/profile/zxspectrum/lists/top-games-i-played-2012/81646/

    1. Dark Souls

Dark Souls is amazing, I start playing it and lose myself in the world. This game is one of the reason I play video games. I like exploring the world, I like the feeling that I am getting better at the game mechanics. Levelling is fun and the magic users have some neat tricks. I think I have put about 45hrs into it, I expect that i will be putting in another 100 at least

    2. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

This game is brilliant, a joy to play. I adore everything about this game, Tight controls, gameplay, Graphics, Sounds, I put so many hrs into it. Played it single player, played it with my kid. This game gave me so much joy, fun. In an ideal world, this would be a killer app for the system

    7. James Bond 007: Blood Stone

Had a blast, action all the way. Really enjoyed it. Like watching a summer blockbuster movie

    8. Mass Effect 3

Enjoyed it, but was a bit let down overall. Was expecting better following the awesomeness of ME2. Think the shooting mechanics are its weak point, I would have also preferred more RPG

    9. Fez

played the demo with my son lots of time, adore everything about this game. Picked up the full game in the sales and ready to hit it more with Luke.

    10. Dishonored

only played the first few hrs, but already loving it. Gonna wait until I update my graphics card before I play the rest :)

    11. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Another Surprise, wasnt expecting much. But the game play was solid and lots of action. Just blank the boss battles :)

    12. DoDonPachi Resurrection

Had to Cave shumps, love playing them, but just no good at them

The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim : Thankfully I choose the Xbox360 version, I just love being in this world. The scale, scope and detail of this game is just remarkable. I see myself playing this for yrs

Bastion was strange, I first tried it mid-year for about 2 hrs. Thought it was good, but just didn’t bother going back to it. With all the end of year talk I thought I should have another go. I completed Crysis2 late one night and thought, i can give bastion a go. It got hold of me, and I ended playing it all through, only finishing at 3:30am in the morning on a work day :)

Loved the weapon levelling and the gameplay. People focus on the narration (which is good) but the strongest part of this game is its awesome gameplay

Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure: 2011 was the year I introduced my son to the StarWars Movies, apart from that awesome moment. The many hrs I played Skylanders with him was so bloody awesome, the game is solid and has great levelling mechanics with some awesome weapon upgrades. My son and I had a blast, we spent the day after boxing day desperately running around town looking for more characters. A great game for kids and adults alike

Side note, son completed it. The PC game you get for free is fun, My fav char = Trigger Happy

Singularity : Loved the story and gunplay, feels old skoolish, but in a good way. Raven delivered an engrossing single player FPS, solid gameplay loved the story and gunplay, feels old skoolish in a good way. Didn’t feel as bland as many of the current shooters. Raven delivered an engrossing single-player FPS, with solid gameplay that is consistent throughout. No real mega high-spots, but kept me interested and wanting more always.

I wish more FPS would be like this, as it doesn’t seem like they designed it by focus groups. But by the developers :)
